Before you sign up
- If you are a non-resident you cannot take this offer online, which is the route the whole page pushes you towards. It has to be a branch.
- Only electronic ACH deposits count — payroll, Social Security, pension, government benefits. Anything paid in at a teller, an ATM or through the KeyBank app does not.
- KeyBank also advertises "up to $500" beside this. That is a different account, paid in $100 pieces judged over twelve months, and the deposit piece alone asks for $60,000 across the year. It is not this offer.
- KeyBank says geographic restrictions apply and that offers in a branch may differ from the ones shown online — worth asking before you sign.
- A bank bonus is income and the bank reports it, here on a 1099-INT. If you file a 1040-NR the paperwork is not the same as for a citizen.
