Your child’s paperwork
One date in, and a plan out: what your child needs, in what order, and by when — each line with the government page it came from.
This page keeps nothing. Your child’s dates stay in this browser and there is no address here for them to be sent to. No account, no row, nothing to delete later.
Tell us about your child
The date of birth is enough to start. Everything else just makes the answer sharper.
Nothing you type here leaves this page.
What you may have been told
These come up constantly in family groups and on forums. The government pages say something different.
A child's OCI card has to be re-issued every time they get a new US passport.
Both sources describe an online upload of the new passport and a recent photo, free, within three months — not a re-issue. A re-issue is required once, on the first passport issued after the child turns 20.
An OCI card makes a child an Indian citizen.
OCI is a registration for foreign nationals of Indian origin. India does not permit dual citizenship, and a child holding a US passport holds it as a US citizen.
A child's passport can be renewed by post or online like an adult's.
State says a child's passport cannot be renewed at all — every application is in person, and both parents or guardians are expected to attend.
What this does not know
- Your child's date of birth. Every date on this page is worked out from it, so without it there is nothing to work out.
