Before you sign up
- The twenty debit card purchases are the part people miss. If you put everyday spending on a credit card to build credit history, this bonus asks you to route twenty transactions away from it.
- A promo code is required. It is free and anybody can request one from the offer page, but an account opened without it does not earn the bonus and it cannot be added afterwards.
- Truist One Checking carries a $12 monthly maintenance fee. One way to clear it is $500 or more of qualifying direct deposits per statement cycle.
- A bank bonus is reported income. If you file a 1040-NR the paperwork is not the same as for a citizen.
