Scam warning

People are posing as USCIS officials. USCIS never asks for fees by phone or email

USCIS warns people to look out for individuals who pose as USCIS officials. USCIS says it will only contact you through official government channels, and not through your personal social media accounts.

What has not changed

USCIS will never ask you to transfer money to an individual, and does not accept Western Union, MoneyGram, PayPal, Venmo or gift cards as payment for immigration fees.

What to do

If you pay a fee online, pay only through your USCIS online account and Pay.gov. If you are a student and someone impersonating USCIS has threatened you or demanded money, contact your student officials at your school.

Next update

We re-read the USCIS Common Scams page before this warning expires.
